Peer Visitor
We have 5 amputee peer visitors on staff. Louisa, Jo and Carlos are above the knee amputees and Greg and Frieda are below the knee amputees.
We are happy to be able to provide amputee peer visits for pre-amputation and/or immediately following surgery to provide encouragement and support. There is no charge for this service. This service can be beneficial to amputees and their families to help address questions and concerns regarding life as an amputee.
If you would like more information or to request a peer visit, please call Frieda at 512-791-8864 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Frieda Borth
Frieda Borth is an experienced amputee with a heart for the needs of new amputees. In 1977, Frieda lost her left leg below the knee when she was hit by a drunk driver while riding her motorcycle. After her accident, Frieda returned to her career as a professional musician and continued to play professionally until 1998.
In 2001, Frieda found herself drawn to the prosthetics field. With assistance from DARS, Frieda was able to start an apprenticeship as a prosthetics technician. Frieda worked to fabricate prostheses for five years while also becoming certified as an Amputee Peer Visitor. In 2002, Frieda founded the Round Rock Amputee Support Group, which she continues to facilitate to this day.
In 2007, Frieda joined the OPT team where she works tirelessly as a patient advocate and director of the Public Relations team.
Frieda enjoys fishing, being outdoors on the local lakes, working out, and walking her Boston Terrier, Sweetie.
Lousia Garrod
Louisa Garrod is our billing coordinator specialist and also a certified amputee peer visitor at OPT.
In October 2002, Louisa was in a motorcycle accident which destroyed her knee. In February 2003, Louisa made the difficult decision to have an above the knee amputation. Louisa received her first prosthesis at the end of April 2003, and she has been up and moving ever since.
Louisa has been working with Aaron Foreman, C.P.O. since 2004 when he opened OPT. Louisa takes great joy in sharing hope with new amputees. Louisa really believes as an amputee an individual can do anything they did before, just a little differently.
Louisa loves gardening, salt water fishing, and billiards. Louisa spends every chance she has on the coast fishing and enjoying life.
Jo Boehmer
Jo Boehmer is a highly energetic woman, who joined the OPT team in October 2009, after ten years as an employee of Samsung Austin Semiconductor.
In 2008, while riding her motorcycle with friends on a return trip from Marble Falls, Jo was hit by a car. The car swiped Jo’s left side, severing her leg. The damage to Jo’s knee necessitated an above knee amputation.
Jo works hard every day to be independent and live her life to the fullest. Jo has recently taken up cycling, and she enjoys being with her family, friends and her Lab, Harley.
Jo became a certified amputee peer visitor in 2010, and she truly enjoys speaking with new amputees and plays an important part on our public relations team.
