Amputee Peer Support
OPT has four ACA Certified
amputee peer visitors on staff with access to other amputees with different
levels and types of amputations. A peer visit represents hope to a new amputee.
Our peer visitors are available as soon as possible for their visits—often on
the day they are called. The peer visitors bring lots of information, including
magazines and articles, to leave with the new amputee, plus their personal
experiences and an understanding ear. Knowledge is the best way to begin your
life as a new amputee—often resulting in less anxiety and stress.
Louisa is a right above knee amputee. Louisa is a league pool player and enjoys
gardening and gulf fishing. Frieda is a
left below knee amputee--she enjoys fishing on the Highland Lakes, playing with
her Boston terrier, Sweetie, and spending time working on amputee support group
and visiting amputees. Jo is a left above the knee amputee and especially
enjoys taking her lab, Harley, for walks and swimming. Heather is a bi-lateral
above the knee. She is currently focused on her rehab and attending ACC. Our
peer visitors enjoy sharing with new amputees information and their
experiences. Louisa, Frieda, and Jo all three lost their limbs in motorcycle
accidents. Heather was in a car accident.
OPT is proud to offer peer visiting to the amputees in our communities.
